Dodgeball Rules

First and Foremost

This organization prides itself on being the most player friendly and community conscious adult sports organization in the Metro Denver Region. This particular league will be for the benefit of SOSoutreach.org. They do A LOT for the kiddies (our future) and we try to do what we can for them.

You can chat me up anytime or even email me with questions or comments and I will most likely respond within a day. I love your feedback. We are, after all, the only locally owned recreation only organization. If we can improve to earn your loyalty, we are all in.

This is a City owned/operated park, so Denver Park laws apply.

The Game

The point of the game is to eliminate the opposing team’s players by getting them out.

Each game will consist of a best of 5 or 7 series (within 35 minutes). The team who wins 3 or 4 rounds first wins!

Trash talk is welcome. Malicious, violent, or otherwise distasteful verbiage or acts will not be tolerated at all.

Team Configuration

Each team may have 6 players on the court at one time, 4 of which may be male. This means 2 females make up the rest of the team.

Teams can play up to 6 females at one time as long as there are no more than 6 players on the court.

Teams may have up to 10 players, only 6 can be on the court at one time.

The Start

1.       Four balls will be lined up on the center line

2.       “Away Team” or “Previous Round Losing Team” (make it take it style) will serve the 5th ball.

3.       All players must remain behind the start line until the served ball hits the ground.

4.       When the served ball hits the ground, the round begins and both teams/players may grab the center balls.

5.       These 4 center balls must be cleared before they are thrown. (Clearing = take them back behind the lane on the court)

6.       The 5th ball (that was served to the home team) is a LIVE BALL! This can be thrown immediately, and does not need cleared. Home/winning team advantage.

The player receiving the served ball must remain behind the start line until the ball hits the ground.

Eliminations

Eliminations can happen in a number of ways.

1.      You are hit by a thrown/kicked ball.

2.      You throw/kick a ball and the other team catches it. (Deflections excluded - a deflected ball must be caught by the person it has initially struck in order to make a catch elimination.)

3.      You throw/kick/deflect a ball out of the fenced area. (You touched it last, it went out, you are out)

Balls can not be caught off the fence for an elimination or a save.

      Saves

If you are hit by a ball and then one of your teammates catches it, you are still in. The player who through the ball is also still in.

Re-entry

Re-entry occurs when a team with less than 5 players currently on the court catches a ball from an opposing player. The catching team gains an out/sideline player while the opposing player is out. (Momentum Swing)

Keep in mind the 3guys/2girls ratio and no more than 5 players on the court. Re-entering players must be within this rule.

Re-entering players must enter the court behind their start line.

The Finish

The team that wins the “best of” series of rounds, wins the game.

High fives all around. Go have some beers together and relive the glory.
